When they got to the place called Skull Hill, they crucified him, along with the criminals, one on his right, the other on his left. Luke 23:33 (MSG)
It’s no secret who God is, has and does. He is Love, has and does Love without restraints. He unashamedly, unapologetically, publicly in broad daylight showed to the whole wide world His unconditional reckless Love for us on a hill.
No detail in Scripture is without meaning or significance.
Jesus was crucified not in a valley but on a hill because God’s love, kindness, and goodness are not a secret to be kept and hidden. God and all He is, has and does are as public and open as a city set on a hill.
He didn’t want you to just hear uncertain rumors of His self-sacrificial Love for you. He died arms wide open in an open public place to prove to us once and for all that we belong to Him and He belongs to us.
Golgotha hill, Calvary hill or “hill of the skull” is place where God went all the way to the last to bring us to Himself. The skull is a bone. When all the flesh or meat is gone all that’s left is dry bone – nothing. God came to our place of “all is gone, nothing is left” Then right in that place He brought us back to His place of nothing missing, all restored, all renewed.
