And let your instruction be sound and fit and wise and wholesome, vigorous and irrefutable and above censure, so that the opponent may be put to shame, finding nothing discrediting or evil to say about us. Titus 2:8 (AMPC)
What sound instruction is; Just as there are many instructors there are also many things spoken and taught that these instructors claim to be instruction from above. But hardly any of it is even fit to be called instruction.
Yet there’s true and sound instruction that’s right from God.
Sound instruction is the truths of the Faith. It is instruction in the Faith Life, the one that pleases God, the life of trusting in and relying on Him.
1 Timothy 4:6 (AMPC) If you lay all these instructions before the brethren, you will be a worthy steward and a good minister of Christ Jesus, ever nourishing your own self on the truths of the faith and of the good [Christian] instruction which you have closely followed.
The truths of the Faith are the Words of the Faith.
1Timothy 4:6 (WEB) If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.
Sound instruction is teaching that gets us rooted and established in Christ and what He has accomplished for us in His crucifixion, death, resurrection and seating at God’s right hand.
It’s teaching that builds and grounds us in Christ as the truth of our life.
The purpose of sound instruction:
1 Timothy 1:5 NLT) The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.
We don’t need to ask God to love us, give us His love or cause us to love because God has already loved us in His Son and flooded our hearts with His Love. It is sound instruction, it is the truths or the Words of the Faith that reveal to us and have us filled and flowing with love that comes from a pure heart.
Sound instruction helps us know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, which is the church of the living God,
1 Timothy 3:14-15 (AMPC) Although I hope to come to you before long, I am writing these instructions to you so that, If I am detained, you may know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and stay (the prop and support) of the Truth.
It’s through sound instruction that we learn how we ought to walk so as to please and gratify God,
1 Thessalonians 4:1 (AMPC) Furthermore, brethren, we beg and admonish you in [virtue of our union with] the Lord Jesus, that [you follow the instructions which] you learned from us about how you ought to walk so as to please and gratify God, as indeed you are doing, [and] that you do so even more and more abundantly [attaining yet greater perfection in living this life].
