So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child’s, and he was healed! 2 Kings 5:14 (NLT)
Obedience that’s simple is acting on what you’ve been instructed to do. This is what all the men and women who have successfully walked with God, experienced His provision and power have in common.
Naaman came to the prophet Elisha seeking healing from leprosy. The man of God instructed him to go dip himself seven times in the Jordan River.
But Naaman was offended because first of all Elisha never came out of his house to meet this mighty Syrian army commander, then he also expected Elisha to place his hand on the diseased part on his body and heal him. Adding insult to injury the man of God tells the army commander to get down into a not so clean river. There were far better rivers back in Syria where he came from.
Thank God for Naaman’s attendants who told him that he could have been given a more difficult instruction but this one was very simple. Convinced he obeyed, went down into the Jordan and came up completely whole.
What instruction have you been given? Simply act on it and see God’s power and provision. It may not be from a prophet but God is always giving us instruction for our wellbeing in every area of life. Psalms 32:8 (AMPC) I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Simple obedience to God’s instruction can be prayer, reading the Word of God, taking ample rest, keeping away from unedifying associations, drinking more water, eating more vegetables or adding a little bit to your fat intake, cutting down on social media time, giving, taking out the garbage can or bag, smiling more the list goes on.
If you’re protesting that why not do some other instruction that’s more convenient for me, remember what Naaman’s attendants told him that “you could have been asked a harder thing but this one is very simple so just go ahead and do it”.
