Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. James 1:19,20 (MSG)
It is said we have two ears but one mouth which emphasizes more of hearing and less of talking.
It’s true that if we learn to listen more, then we would talk less and we would have less trouble. You see even if you heard wrong but never spoke it out you could avoid problems. On the other hand even if what you are saying is right but you rash to say it more so at the wrong time it turns out wrong and a disaster. Listen more than you talk. Sometimes even when others are talking to us we may not be actually speaking with open mouth but in our minds we are already talking back to them before they’ve explained themselves. This leads to misunderstanding and conflict. It’s possible and easy to weigh a matter and respond appropriately as you’re listening but you can’t act reasonably while you are going on talking.
So today let’s have more of your ears and less of your mouth. Then you will have more solutions and fewer problems.
