I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone observes My teaching [lives in accordance with My message, keeps My word], he will by no means ever see and experience death. John 8:51 (AMPC)
The teachings of the Lord are not merely rules and regulations. To keep them is more than to just dutifully obey and carry them out. Keeping or observing the teachings of the Lord is about holding onto and walking in the truth of His Word.
It’s about walking in the light of His Word. Psalms 119:105 (NKJV) Your word [is] a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
This means the teachings or words of Jesus enlighten and direct us in the right path of life.
Keeping the teachings of Jesus is building and conducting our lives according to the Word.
Matthew 7:24-27 (NLT) “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
The teachings of Jesus are building materials for life.
Build your life’s core principles and values with the Word. Build your work ethics with the Word. Build relationships, family, marriage, friendship, business with the Word. Let the Word be your philosophy of life, your culture, your tradition.
The most practical way of keeping the teachings of the Lord is to make it a habit and a practice in every circumstance, condition and crisis to always ask yourself “what does the Word say?” Then go on and do what the Word says.
