Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 1Timothy 1:15-16 (NIV)
The wretch, are not just those whose wicked acts are plain like haters, murderers, witches and the sexually immoral. The wretch, were not so to begin with. They were His treasure to begin with because they began in Him, they came from Him and they were created by Him in His very own likeness.
But the enemy came and planted bad seed into their hearts, the adversary put evil thoughts in their minds. This was a distorted view of who they were in God’s eyes and estimation. The liar convinced them they were not who God made, and said they were. That they had to do something in their own wisdom and strength to become like God. When they did that they messed themselves up. As they thought and believed about themselves so they were, so they behaved, so they lived. They saw and believed and acted and lived as wretched.
But God in His relentless Love for them never gave up on His original treasure now turned wretch. He came and took upon Himself their wretchedness; He became a wretch on the Cross to redeem His original treasure.
