He chose his servant David; he took him from the pastures, where he looked after his flocks, and he made him king of Israel, the shepherd of the people of God. Psalms 78:70-71 (GNT)
When God entrusts us with seemingly little backyard tasks He actually has in mind big front yard responsibilities ahead for us.
Handling small obscure tasks is preparation for the bigger outstanding ones. As David was out there as a little shepherd taking care of his father Jesse’s small sheep God saw a king over his own people Israel in training and preparation. David’s relationship, attitude, and handling of those few sheep out there where no one else saw him but God showed exactly how he would lead Israel.
David testifies that in looking after sheep he trusted God to help him. When a wild animal came to attack the sheep David went after it, when it turned on him he struck it in the Ability of the Lord God of hosts of Israel.
Train yourself to rely on the ability of this same God while still taking care of those seemingly little insignificant chores because you’re preparing for the bigger distinguished responsibilities. Handling toddlers prepares you for handling teenagers which prepares you for handling that team of adult professionals.
