You help everyone in need, and you defend them when they are on trial. Psalm 109:31(CEV)
In the Old Testament people believed God was responsible for and could do all things – evil and good. They thought and believed He could bless and curse, kill and make alive. Even a number of scriptures seem to imply that. So even in their prayers to God, they would call on him, cry out to Him and even command Him to fight against, harm, punish, kill, and destroy those who were against them. This is what King David is doing in this entire Psalm 109. He calls on God and invokes curses to destroy not only his enemies but also their children!Unfortunately, even today there are believers who think and pray like that! But Jesus is the true and ultimate revelation of the true nature and heart of God – John 1:18. He tells us to love and do good to our enemies because this is who the Father is and does – Matthew 5:43-48 Even here in this Psalm 109, in the last verse which is our theme Scripture, David finally realizes the true nature of God – God is on the side of all who are in need to help them when they stand on trial. The people who rise against us are also in need of knowing the love of God that’s why they behave that way.
