Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. 1 Timothy 4:13 (MSG)
For Timothy it was pastoring, that’s where he was posted in what Scripture calls God’s building.
All of us make up God’s building or temple and we’ve each been called to and assigned a place or post in this living temple of God.
So Paul admonishes Timothy to stay at his post. He’s instructing him to give time and attention to his calling, carry out his responsibilities.
After you’ve found out where you’re posted in the Lord’s house make it your aim to stay at and guard your station.
In other words focus on and immerse yourself in the duties assigned to you by the Lord. Aspire to carry out and fulfill your ministry.
We can learn from Timothy what we can do in order to guard our post.
Devoting ourselves to the ministry of the Word. 1 Timothy 4:13 (NLT) Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.
Attending to and effectively employing our gifts. We should know, cultivate, keep stirred up and flow in our gifts
1 Timothy 4:14 (NLT) Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.
Paying attention to our own personal lives – our conduct, health, family, marriage, relationships, business.
1 Timothy 4:16 (NLT) Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching.
We should also take into account those we lead who are looking to us. Be the right example to them.
1 Timothy 4:16b (NLT) Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.
