And this is the message [the message of promise] which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way]. 1John 1:5 (AMPC)
Since life or living itself is knowing who God is (John 17:3) it’s wisdom to search out and study every Scripture with the words “God is….”
Here in our theme verse John the beloved apostle tells us that God is light. This is the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who was intimately close to Jesus, the one who lay in the Lord’s bosom – the closest proximity of acquaintance.
When you get close to God all you see is light. What’s light?
Light is knowledge because it enlightens or makes clear to the mind. When you have the right information about something you’re in the light about that thing.
God is light means in Him everything is made plain and clear.
Nothing is hidden in His presence but all are laid bare.
Hebrews 4:13 (NIV) Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Therefore in order to know anything about anyone or anything we need to first know God. This is so because He made and sustains all creation- Colossians 1:15-17. He’s the source of perfect knowledge of all things. We can perfectly know ourselves and everything only through God’s point of view.
God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way].
He’s the source of the ability to see and perceive clearly and correctly. Until we’ve known God, until we are in relationship and fellowship with God we can’t see and perceive, we are blind and in darkness.
You haven’t even met, seen, and known yourself until you’ve met, seen and known God. You see you’re God’s imagination, His original thought. He made you in His own image and likeness.
Jesus is the exact image and likeness of God; He’s the visible manifestation of the invisible God- Hebrews 1:3
Therefore everything we need to know and understand about everything is in Jesus.
John 8:12 (AMPC) Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life.
To know and follow Jesus is to live in the light. It is to live and walk in the true awareness of who you really are.
