Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23 (AMPC)
Excellence is an attitude. It is the attitude of nothing but the best.
The best or excellence is found in the Excellent One – God Most High.
To do anything with excellence is to do it from the heart and as something done for the Lord.
Since God is an excellent God, everything associated with Him is excellent.
Whatever God does is the best in quality and effect.
His blessing makes rich and there’s no sorrow, toil, or pain with it. Proverbs 10:22 (AMPC) The blessing of the Lord–it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it].
There are no negative side effects in what God does or gives. That’s excellence.
Excellence in what we do isn’t focusing only on the end result but also on how we do.
Actually as far as God is concerned excellence is about how you do something.
If a student scores a hundred percent in a test but through cheating that’s not excellence. If an employee accomplishes all the tasks given to them but with complaining and quarreling that’s not excellence. If a child does everything the parents tell her but when in her mind it is only to get them off her case that’s not excellence.
If we help, support, or give, in any way only because we are seeking to be accorded the same treatment that’s not excellence.
Whatever we do only to feel good about ourselves, to feel important, to feel worthy, to be accepted or praised by others, that’s not done with excellence.
Excellence is that which pleases God. Gratitude pleases God. Whatever we do in gratitude to God we have done with excellence.
Colossians 3:17 (MSG) Let every detail in your lives–words, actions, whatever–be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.
Pray, praise, preach, parent, party, plan, plant in gratitude to God and there you have excellent work.
Love, labor, lead, and live in gratitude to the Lord and that’s excellence.
Give, govern, gather in gratitude to the Lord and you’ll have done excellently.
When you know you’re doing it for God you’ll give it your best, you’ll do it the best way possible. When you’re doing it as unto the Lord you’ll find that His wisdom and strength are readily available to you to enable you carry out an excellent work.
