Fix Your Eyes on what’s Ahead

Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Proverbs 4:25 (NLT) What’s ahead of us isn’t something in the distant future but something right before us. Fixing our eyes on what’s ahead is focusing on what God has prepared, done, accomplished and made ready for and given us. 1 Corinthians 2:12 (NKJV) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. What’s ahead of us is the life of victory and dominion that Jesus made available to us in His death and Resurrection. What’s behind us is the fall of Adam and all its consequences of condemnation, bondage and oppression. We fix our eyes ahead by looking to Jesus and His finished work on the Cross. Hebrews 12:2a (GNT) Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. We see Jesus as our life, our worthiness, our qualification, our wisdom, our advantage in life, our security. We see ourselves in Him as able, successful. This is the best way to look ahead.

Keep your mouth free from corrupt talk

Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Proverbs 4:24 (NIV) According to God’s Word perverse or corrupt talk is more than abusive or obscene language. The Hebrew words from which we get perverse and corrupt actually mean distortion, crookedness, false or deviation. They give the idea of turning aside. Perversity and corrupt talk mean speaking what’s contrary to what God says. It’s what the devil spoke to Adam and Eve. It was distorted, crooked, and false. What he spoke to them caused them to turn aside from what God had told them. It brought the distortion and crookedness that’s in the world which is sin, fear, confusion, worry, shame, condemnation, sickness, poverty, suffering, destruction and death. It’s a turning aside from what God says and gives which is Righteousness, life, peace, assurance, glory health, comfort, abundance, security and immortality. When God says you’re His beloved child, He loves and cares for you, but you say you’re a nobody, unlovely, unworthy, no one loves or cares for you that’s perversity and corrupt talk. When God says you’re righteous, blessed, and favored through His Son Jesus Christ and what He did on the Cross but you say you’re still a sinner because you still fall into sin, you’re under a curse and rejected because things are not working out, that’s perversity and corrupt talk. Let your mouth be filled with God talk.

Guard Your Heart

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) Here we see how the Wisdom of God far surpasses the wisdom of men. People spend all their time, money, and energy guarding their life, possessions and achievements but still fail. On the other hand, God says you guard only one thing, one area, and everything else will be taken care of. God says guard the source, and the outflowing will be secure. The heart is where life flows from and it’s where it’s sustained from. Everything physical, seen, and tangible is birthed from the unseen, which is the thoughts, ideas, beliefs and convictions in your heart. When your heart is filled with life, peace, assurance, safety, contentment, rest, and certainty that’s what is going to flow out of you, that’s what will mark everything you touch, do, and have. But if your heart is filled with fear, worry, confusion, failure, insecurity, and lack that’s what will come out of you, that’s what will mark whatever you touch, do, and have. Therefore, focus on your heart and the rest will fall in line. That’s why Holy Spirit led prayer is that the eyes of our hearts are enlightened that we may know…what God has called us to, given us and is doing in us – Ephesians 1:18,19; that Christ dwell in our hearts through faith – Ephesians 3:17. This doesn’t mean Christ is not in us so we call Him to come in, it means we fill our hearts with the knowledge that Christ is in us.

Keys to Life and Health

20My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. 21Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Proverbs 4:20-22(NIV) The saying that out of sight out of mind has a point. We can even say out of sight, out of mind, out of body. But let’s look at it another way – In sight, in mind, in body. What’s in sight, stays in your mind, heart, and body. You can have and enjoy life and health by simply effortlessly seeing them constantly. The Scripture has said that when we do not let the Word of God out of our sight but keep seeing it, guarding it in our hearts, we find it and then it’s life and health to us. The Word of God is life – John 6:63 (NKJV), and it’s living – Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV). The Word of God is also health – Proverbs 4:22. When you keep looking into the Word you see life and health. You see the God who desires you living healthy and prosperous. This gets rid of the mindset of degeneration and death that’s in the world. You begin to agree with God and see yourself living and healthy. This is how we find the Word. Then the Word you’ve given access and authority into your life starts transforming your body from within to line up with the truth of God which is life and health. This is the faith life. This is seeing the things that are not seen. This is seeing yourself in God’s Word which is living and health. This is how you can see yourself to life and health.

Hearing God’s Voice

20My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart Proverbs 4:20-21(NKJV) Success in everything comes from hearing God’s voice and doing what He says. But most believers are struggling hearing and discerning God’s voice. The first step in hearing God’s voice is attending to His written Word. The Scripture has said “give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.” Attending to God’s written Word is how you incline your ear to His sayings. When you pay attention to God’s written Word, get acquainted with it then it’s very easy to recognize God speaking. Because God always speaks in line with His written Word. God and His Word are one. Actually, the Word is God speaking to us. When we attend to God’s written Word, hearing it, studying it, meditating on it, acting on it, we will hear God’s specific instructions or directives in life concerning any issue. This is the same thing God told Joshua, that when he pays attention to the written Word by meditating in all that’s written in the book of the law, then he would do according to what’s written there, then he would make his way prosperous and successful – Joshua 1:8. The meditation in what’s written would help him hear and recognize God’s voice or sayings, he would act on that and that’s where prosperity and success dwells. Give yourself to God’s written Word and hear God’s voice clearly.

The Path of the Righteous

The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18 (NIV) There’s a consistent gradual increase in the light and heat of the sun on earth as the day unfolds, and the peak is at noon day when the light and heat of the sun is at its highest. The path or life of the righteous is compared to the shining of the sun. It gets brighter, clearer and stronger. Always remember the righteous is everyone who is born again through faith in Jesus Christ – Romans 3:22. Knowledge is light. Jesus is the Sun of Righteousness – Malachi 4:2. The more we know Jesus, the more light shines in our life. The more life becomes brighter, clearer, and stronger. At midday when it’s brightest and hottest the sun is closest to earth. The knowledge of God is close intimate relationship with Him. Now we are already as closest to the Lord as we could ever be, because we are joined with Him – John 15:5. But there’s a getting closer to Him where His thoughts are our thoughts and His ways our ways. When you choose to renew your mind, letting it be filled and influenced with God’s Word you’re on the path of knowing Jesus, you’re on the path of the righteous. Life will become brighter, clearer and stronger. If you’ve just began it will at first look like dawn, where it’s not yet clear, but keep on walking, keep on renewing your mind with the knowledge of Christ for in this is midday which is clarity and strength of life.

Where the Mind goes the Man follows.

14Don’t do as the wicked do, and don’t follow the path of evildoers. 15Don’t even think about it; don’t go that way. Turn away and keep moving. Proverbs 4:14-15 (NLT) If you’re trying to change the course of your life by changing your actions or behavior you’re having it backwards. That’s frustrating and it won’t work out. It’s like stopping a tree from growing by cutting off the branches. New ones will grow back up again. You have to pull up the tree from the roots. What you think, you follow, you do. Therefore, to change what you do, first change what you think. Before you do something, you first think about it, you follow it with intention, and then you end up doing it. That’s the pattern of behavior. Our theme Scripture has commanded us saying “don’t do what the wicked do, don’t follow it, don’t even think about” If this was a tree, the doing is the fruit, the following are the branches and the thinking are the roots. To stop the fruit, you deal with the roots. In order to stop doing what the wicked do, stop thinking what the wicked think. Start thinking what God thinks because He is righteous and does righteousness. You can download God’s righteous thinking from His Word which is known as the Word of Righteousness – Hebrews 5:13 (NKJV) Let God’s Word shape your thinking and it will shape your actions and behavior.

The Key to Life

Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life. Proverbs 4:13 (NLT) It’s useless having or possessing something you can’t open or operate. So having the key and using it to unlock what’s locked is what takes you from possessing to using and enjoying. This applies also to life. There’s a key to opening up, functioning in, and enjoying life. Taking hold of and guarding instructions is the key to walking in all that life has to offer. Just as every designer, and manufacturer gives instructions for the proper running and maintenance of his product. God who is the origin and designer of life has given instructions for the best way to live. When we hold and guard the Lord’s instructions, life opens up and fully functions for us. For example, when Scripture instructs us to obey our parents so it may go well with us and so we may live long [Ephesians 6:1-3], the wisdom in that is our parents have been around longer, they’ve learnt what works and what doesn’t, so we can learn from them without first experiencing the consequences of going down the wrong route. We can take hold of and guard our life by taking hold of and guarding instructions. The Bible, Scriptures, or the Word of God, it’s all about instructions from God the source and designer of life telling us how to live to the fullest. Take hold of what God says, guard it and you will live.

Never held back, never stumbling

When you walk, you won’t be held back; when you run, you won’t stumble. Proverbs 4:12 (NLT) You can walk in life, never held back and never stumbling. How’s this possible seeing there are so many things as well as people that hold back and cause one to stumble? When you prize and embrace wisdom, she will make you great and honor you – Proverbs 4:8. This means wisdom lifts you above everything that holds back and causes to stumble. Concerning your health it’s possible to never be held back nor stumble because of sickness, infirmity, weakness or dysfunction. In your relationships it’s possible to never be held back by hurts, mistreatment, rejection, or betrayal. In your aspirations, work, ministry, business and finances it’s possible to never be held back or stumble over failure, setback or loss. All this is possible when you learn wisdom’s ways which are straight paths – Proverbs 4:11(NLT). You learn wisdom’s ways by listening to and doing what the Lord says – Proverbs 4:10 (NLT). For those who love the Lord’s instructions have great peace and do not stumble – Psalms 119:165 (NLT)

The Most Important Thing

Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [Therefore] get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) Principal means most important. Wisdom is number one for even God Himself started with wisdom in creating the world – Proverbs 3:19 (NIV) By wisdom the LORD laid the earth’s foundations. Desire and prefer wisdom above riches, power, influence and even life itself, because wisdom gives all those. Since Christ is the Wisdom of God – 1Corinthians 1:24, set your heart and mind on knowing Him and living in Him. Above all else set your heart and mind on what Christ accomplished in His crucifixion death and resurrection because this is the greatest demonstration of the wisdom of God.
