A calm and undisturbed mind and heart are the life and health of the body, but envy, jealousy, and wrath are like rottenness of the bones. Proverbs 14:30 (AMPC)
When you are calm you are at ease. The opposite of ease is dis-ease. So you now notice and know that disease is when you’re not calm. When you are not calm the result is sickness or disease. On the other hand a calm and undisturbed mind and heart are the life and health of the body. It’s not what happens to you, it’s not what others do to you, it’s not what you are going through that’s the real threat to your holistic wellbeing but rather the state of your heart and mind. Furthermore the state of your inward being is not determined by what’s going on outside of you. You decide to be calm and undisturbed or troubled and distressed.
Ease or dis-ease are both a state of mind we choose. We choose any state of mind by what we think about and meditate on. Philippians 4:8 (MSG) Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious–the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.
Be calm, for that’s how you keep your entire life (spirit soul and body) well and thriving.
You do this by fixing your mind on and filling it with what’s true, good, beautiful, positive, inspiring, and godly. Reject and refuse the bad, ugly, discouraging, negative, and ungodly. Therefore be alert, watch out for, examine and filter what you listen to, read, think, and say because these are the avenues that bring and build life or death forces in your mind and heart.
Listen to, read, think about and speak the Word of God. It is the Word of life. It is the Gospel of peace. It is the Word of faith. The life, peace and faith of God in our hearts and minds is what keep us calm or at ease, flooding life and health to our bodies and diffusing harmony and energy into our relationships and environment.
