See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Colossians 2:8 (NIV)
Any teaching, command, preaching, instruction vision, dream, prophecy, tradition, or practice that’s not Christ centered leads to captivity. This is because true freedom is only found in Christ. Anything that tries to add to Christ and what He accomplished is a trap and takes us into captivity. For instance our Salvation is solely the work of Christ. He single handedly saved us forever in His Cross. Now if someone preaches or teaches about certain other things we need to first do in order to be saved or additional things to securing our salvation that’s a step away into captivity. It is in Christ alone that we are freed from all slavery and bondage and find our freedom as redeemed sons of God.
