As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. 1 Timothy 1:3-4 (NIV)
The purpose of ministry or even whatever we do is to advance God’s work. Whether teaching, administration, music, giving, cleaning or any other activity in the church our aim should be that the Work of God progress and be established.
What’s the Work of God? The last part of our opening Scripture says – “God’s work–which is by faith”.
Faith is God’s work. When they asked Jesus what we must do to do the works of God, He answered, this is the Work of God – believe (have Faith) in Him whom He sent. John 6:28- 29.
Every time we point, help, urge, persuade, lead, and remind someone to believe, have Faith or trust in what God has already finished in Christ we are advancing God’s Work.
