In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a [spiritual] circumcision [performed by] Christ by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts). Colossians 2:11(AMPC)
In Christ’s crucifixion and death we were totally cut off from the old order of existence. We were cut off from everything we used to be and do in our identity with Adam as sinners. As in circumcision where the foreskin once cut off, thrown away and dead can never be put, sewed, or grafted back on or connect with the body it was cut from, the old Adamic existence that’s fallen, sinful, carnal, ungodly, cursed can never be part of us anymore. For this reason when as believers we continue walking according to the former old and dead existence we are living and acting a lie. That’s not who we are. We need to awaken to the truth of what happened to us in Christ.
It’s awakening to the truth of our spiritual circumcision in Christ that gets us to stop sinning. Scripture says “awake to righteousness, and do not sin” 1Corinthians 15:34 (NKJV)
