A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. John 13:34 (NKJV)
Under the old covenant the commandment was to love your neighbor as you love yourself – Leviticus 19:18. But so many people don’t even love themselves. They have a negative self-image, a sense of unworthiness, inferiority, self-condemnation, self-hatred, they are depressed and even suicidal.
Jesus is the mediator of the New and better Covenant – Hebrews 12:24. Under the New Covenant Jesus Himself gives us what to give others. He loves us unconditionally, self-sacrificially (John 15:12-14) and then tells us to give that same love to others.
He forgave us unconditionally, He freely gave Himself for us, He believes the best of us not based on what we have done, He’s patient with us. This is the same that we are to extend to others.
