Oh, that men would praise [and confess to] the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men! Psalms 107:8 (AMPC)
The goodness of the Lord is the sum total of everything He is and has. It is the all-encompassing essence of all His attributes.
When Moses asked the Lord to show him His Glory, the Lord replied – “I am going to cause all my Goodness to pass before you”
Exodus 33:18, 19. What God meant was – The Glory of the Lord is His Goodness.
Then the Lord Himself described what His Glory or Goodness is. He said the Lord is Merciful, Gracious, Compassionate, Longsuffering, abounding in Goodness and Truth, keeping Mercy for thousands, Forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin… Exodus 34:6-7.
That means testifying of the Lord’s Goodness is telling of, making known His Mercy, Grace, Compassion, Longsuffering, Truth and Forgiveness.
Nowhere has the Lord’s Goodness been revealed and demonstrated more clearly, accurately, perfectly, and convincingly than at the Cross. The suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is how God ultimately, fully, totally, poured out all His Goodness to us. It is how God showed us His Mercy, Grace, Compassion and Forgiveness.
When we tell of what Jesus has done for us on the Cross we are testifying of the Lord’s Goodness. Not only should we talk about the Goodness of God but also walk it and demonstrate it in our own life and conduct. Be merciful, gracious, compassionate, longsuffering and forgiving to others just as the Lord is to you.
