The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil. Proverbs 15:28 (NKJV)
In every life situation you can either respond appropriately or react thoughtlessly. You can respond by being in control and taking the right appropriate action or you can react by losing control and acting carelessly. The right response in any situation is always in the heart – Proverbs 20:5. Therefore the instruction of wisdom and righteousness is always to look to and listen to your heart. This is what it means that the heart of the righteous studies how to answer. Jesus always looked to and made decisions from His heart. He says “as I hear I judge and my judgement is righteous” John 5:30. Then He also counselled us to judge the same way – John 7:24. When they brought to Jesus a woman caught in adultery – John 8:1-11 and asked Him what He said about it, Jesus did not react by speaking right away, rather He took time hearing from His heart and thus responded with such wisdom that stopped the mouth of the accusers and saved the life of the woman. Listen to and respond from your heart. Don’t rush to react especially with your mouth. Weigh your answers in your heart – Proverbs 15:28 (NIV) That’s how you stop foolishness, evil, harm, waste, hurt, and destruction. That’s how you save, preserve, bring order and give life.
