Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad. Proverbs 12:25 (NKJV)
The root of depression is anxiety or worry. While we can not prevent situations that bring worry and we can’t keep away thoughts of worry from knocking on the door of our minds, we can stop them from entering in and lodging in our hearts. Anxiety or worry is thoughts or words that carry heaviness and when they enter the heart they cause it to stoop under that weight. Proverbs 12:25 (ASV) Heaviness in the heart of a man maketh it stoop; But a good word maketh it glad. Anxiety is heaviness. Depression is a result of carrying heaviness. But there are thoughts or words that carry lightness, release, and ease. A good word, a peaceful word, an encouraging word, a comforting word, a joyful word, a thankful word can melt anxiety and dispel depression. The darkness of depression is dispelled by turning on the light of the knowledge of Jesus our burden bearer, the One who bore the whole weight of our sins plus all their consequences like all sickness which includes depression.
