Praise the Lord, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle. Psalm 144:1 (NLT)
God’s true and most effective way of fighting for us isn’t hitting, killing, or destroying people who hate or hurt us. Even in the Old Testament where the enemies of God’s people would actually be wiped out, the results were short lived because more enemies would arise. God’s fighting is causing us to triumph over the real enemy which are not people but the fear of being forsaken, alone, helpless, and overcome in the face of danger. In our opening Scripture the writer says that the Lord trains his hands for war and gives his fingers skill for battle. In the next verse he explains and reveals how the Lord does it. In Psalm 144:2 (AMPC), the writer describes the Lord as his Steadfast Love, Fortress, High Tower, Deliverer, Shield, the One in Whom he trusts and takes refuge, the One Who subdues people under him. The revelation and knowledge of who the Lord is in our lives is the best way to fight and win. When you know the Lord loves you, defends you, and that He is your deliverer then you can have assurance and rest because no one and nothing can harm, overcome, or destroy you. This is the real fighting and lasting victory over every enemy.
