The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” Psalm 110:1 (NKJV)
This is a messianic Psalm – pointing to Jesus Christ. When Christ rose, He ascended to heaven and sat down at God’s right hand – Mark 16:19. The right hand of God is the position and place of authority, power, and honor.Because we are in Christ, we are also seated with Him in the same position and place – Ephesians 2:6. But there’s another invitation to sit. God is telling us to sit where we are already seated! Though in reality we are in Christ, sharing in His life, triumph and dominion, our minds have not been renewed and convinced. We are still living and walking by what we mentally know, see, feel, and reason. So, we still see sin, the world, sickness, poverty, death, the devil and all the enemies not yet defeated, not yet under our feet but rather ruling over us. The Scripture has not said fight till your enemies are under your foot but sit till God makes your enemies your foot stool.Sitting here means conviction of and confidence in what God has already done in raising us and giving us a joint seating with Christ at His Right Hand.It is the knowledge and persuasion that God has already in Christ defeated all our enemies that causes us to live in triumph and dominion over them. Know and be convinced that Christ freed you from sin, overcame the world, defeated the devil, destroyed death, triumphed over all evil. Then you will no longer see these enemies as above and stronger than you, that you’re yet to fight and overcome them. Instead, you will always see and deal with them as the defeated and disarmed foes.
